(Iksan = International News) Reporter Song Young-shim – On the 15th, the Korea Agriculture Technology Promotion Agency (KATPA) transferred three unused patents it owned to domestic companies for free. This initiative aims to enhance the agricultural technology competitiveness of domestic companies and promote technology commercialization.
The "Free Patent Sharing" initiative involves public institutions transferring unused patents they own to domestic companies free of charge. KATPA, as a public technology transfer organization, has actively joined this effort to transition its unused patents to the private sector.
To support the Ministry of Economy and Finance's “Private-Public Collaboration for Free Sharing of Unused Patents,” KATPA announced in November last year that it would transfer patent technologies developed through internal job inventions for free.
The patents shared this time include:
•A method for stabilizing rice bran
•A functional food composition using stabilized rice bran and germ, and its manufacturing method
•A cosmetic composition using stabilized rice bran and germ, and its manufacturing method
These three patents are in the bio-technology field. Among them, two functional food-related patents were transferred to Humeal Co., Ltd. Humeal is a food-tech startup producing plant-based milk powder using an ultra-short process that skips the liquefaction stage.
Kim Kyung-hwan, CEO of Humeal, expressed his excitement, stating, “By applying the rice bran stabilization technology, we can accelerate the development of new products that further enhance the quality of our plant-based alternative foods.”
